In my dissertation I investigate how vocal and instrumental teachers in the Aesthetic programme of the upper secondary school describe musically qualitative aspects in their students' music making, and how these teachers work with such aspects in their teaching in the courses Instrument or song 1 and Instrument or song 2. The participants in the study are eight teachers and their students of singing, percussion, guitar and piano - two teachers per instrument. The dissertation consists of an interview study and an observation study. The theoretical starting points are 'personal construct theory' according to Kelly (1963) and a 'cultural-psychological perspective' according to Bruner (2002, 1977).

The dissertation project is expected to be completed in autumn 2026.

Provisional title of the dissertation:
Musical Qualitative Aspects of Vocal and Instrumental Teachers' Conceptual Use and Teaching in Upper Secondary Aesthetic Programmes. Interview and observation studies in the Instrumental or Vocal 1 and Instrumental or Vocal 2 courses.
