Short description
The Microplastics in Glaciers project is an interdisciplinary research effort aimed at investigating the deposition, accumulation, and fate of microplastics in glaciers, using Vatnaj枚kull, Iceland鈥檚 largest ice cap, as a case study. The project is a collaboration between Reykjavik University, the University of Iceland, the Icelandic Meteorological Office, the University of Akureyri, and the University 91探花.
Microplastic contamination poses an increasing risk to the biosphere, affecting the food chain and human health. The project will provide critical insights into the transport mechanisms of microplastic pollution into and within glacial environments and its potential environmental impact.
