Genetic engineering and tool development for cells of the central nervous system

Research group

Short description

Our research focuses on development of new molecular tools and techniques to study and functionally manipulate cells of the central nervous system (neurons and glia). The long-term goal is to generate new means to address therapeutic and basic research needs within the neuroscience field. To this end we use a range of methods in molecular biology, experimental neuroscience and immunology. In ongoing projects we’re developing new methodology to modulate microglial function, with the aim of ‘reprogramming’ dysfunctional cells in neurodegenerative and other CNS diseases. In parallel we are developing novel vectors to improve gene delivery to microglia in vivo.
