Welcome to an inspiring workshop exploring the connections between ocean health and human health! PhD students and researchers – both early-career and senior – will gather at the unique Kristineberg research environment to dive into this year’s theme: One health and pollution – from the sea to humans.

JAWS is a two-day workshop organized by the Swedish Academic Consortium on Chemical Safety (SWACCS) for PhD students, master students, postdocs, and researchers working in all fields related to chemicals, health, and the environment. This annual workshop is offering exciting presentations, great networking and workshop opportunities covering important aspects of being a scientist in the broad scope of chemical safety research and training.

Concept mapping

Included in JAWS is a Concept Mapping Activity (CMA) on the JAWS-theme of the year. The overarching goal of the CMA is to visualize the broad diversity of sectors in the society, that need to interact and collaborate to fully implement sound management of chemicals and waste, which is essential for achieving the goals of the United Nations (UN) Agenda 2030 and the associated seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN “Global Framework on Chemicals - for a Planet Free of Harm from Chemicals and Waste” is an important roadmap for this work, and thus represents one of the close to 60 concepts used in the concept mapping group activity. Several of the concepts used in the mapping activity are linked directly to the themes of the JAWS 2025 lecturing contents and thus offer direct opportunities for deep-learning and reflections between the lectures and the CMA. An individual task of the CMA is a personal reflection where “Myself now”, “My project/tasks now” and “Myself in 10 or 20 years from now” are mapped onto the concept map generated by the group-activity thereby stimulating for early career-awareness.

The workshop offers:

  • Cutting-edge scientific seminars and a concept mapping group activity (on the workshop theme)
  • Valuable networking opportunities
  • New perspectives on your own research
  • The chance to earn academic credits (for PhD students)

Why join?

  • Because networking is both fun and rewarding.
  • Because learning to communicate your research clearly is a powerful skill.
  • Because meeting other researchers can lead to unexpected opportunities.
  • And because you'll leave with new knowledge, fresh inspiration – and maybe new collaborations.

Poster:

There will be a poster session where participants will have the opportunity to present and discuss their recent work and research area. Thus, participants are encouraged to bring a poster, newly made or recently presented.

Practical info:

The participation fee is 3400 SEK, covering accommodation and all meals. Payment is made on-site by card or Swish. As this is a marine station with limited space, some participants will need to share rooms. Please let us know in advance if you're open to sharing, and who you'd prefer to share with.

Registration deadline: 2025-07-04
