Welcome to an interdisciplinary conference focusing on the idea of a cultural (heritage) canon.
In a political and cultural landscape where questions of identity, belonging and representation are at the center, the concept of the canon arouses strong emotions – from defense to rejection.
Canons are created all the time, both consciously and unconsciously, and thus affect our collective memory and future stories. We invite you to an in-depth conversation about how culture and cultural heritage are defined, selected and institutionalized. Who do we include as professional cultural heritage workers through our choices – and who do we exclude? How does canon formation affect collective memory and future stories?
Together we examine the possibilities and dilemmas of the cultural heritage canon in a time of rapid change. We discuss power, representation and processes that shape what is considered valuable and relevant for the future. Welcome to the conversation about the future of cultural heritage!
