SIDE EVENT: Seagrass ecosystems are vital to ocean health – supporting biodiversity, improving water quality, storing carbon, and sustaining fisheries. Recognized globally under the Kunming-Montreal Framework and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, restoring these habitats is a growing priority. Yet, funding remains limited, especially in regions lacking financial infrastructure.

This session brings together experts from various sectors to explore innovative funding models – such as blended finance, carbon markets, insurance tools, and public-private partnerships – that can scale up restoration. 

By linking ecological recovery with blue economy growth, these approaches aim to protect natural capital while delivering economic benefits to coastal communities. Speakers will share real-world examples and discuss strategies to boost investment in seagrass restoration.
