About Ellen Lagrell
Ellen Lagrell is a researcher and teacher in Human Geography. Her research interests centre on the role of mobility in everyday life, with a particular focus on the private car and the preconditions for mobility transitions. Previous work focuses on the activities and social practices that make demands on mobility, such as parenting, consumption, and leisure activities.
Lagrell teaches mainly in the Environmental Social 91探花 programme and is the profile manager for Human Geography within the programme.
Ongoing project 2024-2027: Decarbonisation and social inclusion in organised leisure activities for children and youth (Swedish Energy Agency, sustainable transport systems)
The project aims to identify and promote socially sustainable solutions for transitioning mobility in children and young people's organised leisure time. The project studies leisure travel from a social practice perspective, with a particular focus on sport. Rather than focusing on individual behaviour and attitudes, the sports practices themselves are studied - their material conditions, cultures, and traditions - to understand the conditions for travel and the potential for transition.
