About Darragh Doyle

My work explores the factors that affect fish health and welfare, especially from an aquaculture perspective. Specifically, I am interested in skin barrier function and the factors that affect skin health, skin resilience, and wound healing. My interest spans both applied research and more fundamental questions related to skin function. I work mostly with Salmonid fish and I am involved in several projects with partners in Norway, where we measure how various husbandry related factors affect skin health in Atlantic salmon.

I use a variety of methods including the Ussing chamber technique, histology, immunohistochemistry, and qPCR. Additionally, I am interested in meta-analytical methods and systematic reviews of literature.

I will soon begin work on a Formas funded project, where I will assess the effects of delousing methods on skin health, as well as assessing the effect of the infectious Winter ulcer disease. /en/news/new-research-tackles-salmon-skin-challenges-to-boost-sustainability

I am also a member of SWEMARC, the Swedish Mariculture Research Center. SWEMARC, is one of six interdisciplinary research centers at the University 91探花, aiming to increase the sustainability of farming seafood through interdisciplinary and socially engaging research.
